Green for Now and for the Future: Eco Fair (St Nicholas’ Church, Wigginton)

North York Church are hosting a series of events across York as part of York Environment Weeks. There are a wide range of activities over a number of sites—talks, upcycling workshops, nature trails, a Repair Café, a Reflection Space and Lego Church.

So much to do and something for everyone!

Many events are drop-in: just turn up and see what’s going on.

Some workshops have limited space: please use the Eventbrite links below to book free tickets to the events you wish to attend.

Come along to St Nicholas’ Church, Wigginton between 11:00 and 16:30 on Saturday 21st September and take part in one of these activities:

 


Drop-in: Second hand clothing with Community Bees

  • 11:00 – 16:30

Community Bees are running a second-hand and end-of-line clothing giveaway at the Sustainable Fashion Hub. Give fast fashion the elbow by wearing preloved clothing!

While you are there, check out the information boards on fast fashion to get some top tips on greening your wardrobe. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

 


Workshops: Upcycled hair scrunchies

  • 11:00 – 11:50 (for ages 12 – 16 only)
  • 12:30 – 13:20 (open to all – young children must be accompanied by an adult)
  • 14:30 – 15:20 – (open to all – young children must be accompanied by an adult)

Elevate your outfit and your hair with your very own hand made High-Vis Scrunchie. Turn textiles destined for landfill into an eye-catching, practical fashion essential. Wear them on your arms for the perfect summer accessory! High-Vis Clothing is notoriously difficult to recycle. ReFactory intercept this waste and turn it into a range of Hi-Vis Festival Accessories.

Please note the 11:00 – 11:50 workshop is specifically for young people, and parents will be required to do a consent form ahead of the event.

 


Workshop: Learn new stitches to decorate old denim

  • 13:30 – 14:20 (ages 16+ only)

As part of a Community Arts Project that will be displayed later in the year, create pieces of decorated denim that will be joined together as part of a piece to encourage people to think about upcycling and repurposing their clothes. Suitable for ages 16+.

Sustainable Fashion Workshop

  • 15:30 – 16:30 (ages 16+ only)

Come and learn about Sustainable Fashion with York College in this practical workshop. Ages 16+ only.
