Green for Now and for the Future: Eco Fair (Haxby and Wigginton Methodist Church)

North York Church are hosting a series of events across York as part of York Environment Weeks. There are a wide range of activities over a number of sites—talks, upcycling workshops, nature trails, a Repair Café, a Reflection Space and Lego Church.

So much to do and something for everyone!

Many events are drop-in: just turn up and see what’s going on.

Some workshops have limited space: please use the Eventbrite links below to book free tickets to the events you wish to attend.

Come along to Haxby and Wigginton Methodist Church, between 10:00 and 16:00 on Saturday 21st September and take part in one of these activities:

 


Drop in: Repair Café

  • 10:00 – 16:00

Do your bit to stop us being a throwaway society. Do you have small electrical, mechanical or wooden items that need repairing? Got clothes to be mended or altered? Does your bike need repairing? Our friendly repair café will help or advise. Have a cuppa and a piece of cake while you wait. Items should be small enough to be carried in.

 


 

Drop in: Information Hub

  • 10:00 – 16:00

Drop in to see the Information Hub as part of our other Eco Fair events. Find out the facts about the Climate and Nature Emergency but also see what’s happening locally. Find out some top tips to take action and share your own ideas too.

 


 

York’s Tiny Forest

  • 10:00 – 11:00

Volunteers from Good Gym will explain how they created York’s first community mini Forest using the Miyawaki method. The talk will be around 30 minutes with extra time for Q&A.

Creepy Crawlies & Other Fun Things Along the Foss

  • 14:00 – 15:00

With the River Foss Society. (Around 30 minutes, with time for Q&A.)

A family-friendly look at what can be found in or along the River Foss. What groups are trying to do to improve local biodiversity and what the potential could be for the river.

The Changing Room Project

  • 15:00 – 16:00

York City Football Club Foundation talk about their free-cycle scheme for football kit and equipment. The talk will be around 30 minutes with time for Q&A afterwards.
