Taking Action

Do you care about the environment but don’t know how you can make a difference? This year’s York Environment Weeks programme is full of ideas for how you can take action, whether that’s by making changes in your day-to-day life, working towards making your business more green, or participating in collective campaigning. By working together and learning from one another, we are able to have much more of an impact. Read on for more details of upcoming events.

Find out how to save energy and money around the home with Age UK York, City of York Council and Older Citizens Advocacy York. Enjoy short talks, info stalls, free LED bulbs for eligible residents and more.

Thursday 3rd October, 7-9pm: Calling female-business owners: “how can we make our businesses more green?”

Hear from local business owners Alice Maynard of The Outside In and Laura Johnson of Dogobees about what they have been doing to make their businesses more green. An opportunity for learning, conversation and connection, hosted by York CliConnect.

Discover how YorEnergy, a new service for York residents, can make your home more energy and cost-efficient. Come along to hear from retrofit experts and community energy champions.

Sunday 6th October, 10.15-11.30am: York Kidical Mass

Join a fun, family-friendly protest ride to campaign for safer cycling around York. The ride will be around 3 miles and is suitable for all ages. Cargo bikes, decorated bikes, placards (#Room to ride #Safe cycle routes to schools), flags, and speakers encouraged.

York Bike Belles Autumn Nature Programme, 1st October – 8th December

This programme is free and inclusive for all ages and abilities of York Residents. There’s weekly walks, rides, workshops and supported rides for those with reduced mobility, every week for 10 weeks.
